Yes.
I have been around a lot of people and there are many who heard of Linux but to not know how to pronounce that word. I never thought it was complicated, that's a latin word, right?
So... maybe it is not "Lie neex"... Think about the "i" later and see how Italians, Spanish and French people pronounce it... Yes! The right way! You got it!
Anyway... for those in doubt, there is a file you can listen to Linus Torvalds himself, he's the one who named that OS, after all, so he should know how to say it. Enjoy!

Re: Do you know how to pronounce Linux?
Note that Linus Torvalds is not a native English speaker (I suppose that would be what you refer to as "European English"). Also I'm not fighting or upset. As long as Linux becomes the OS that rules them all... how you say the name is a much lesser concern.
Re: Do you know how to pronounce Linux?
What you are ignoring is that American English, British English, European English, are simply not 100% exactly the same.
Many many different dialects exist, even just on the one "English Island", a.k.a the U.K.
It doesn't necessarily mean that they are all wrong, especially if each speaker adheres to the rules of their own dialect and it's exceptions, unless you put in place a global government which will create a ubiquitous ''Standard English'', but I digress.
So many examples you hear these days, for an example, American YouTube content makers keep apologizing when they say "Soder" trying to please their foreign audience, and who can forget the never ending discussions - Is 'Skype' pronounced "Skyp.(full stop)" or is it "Skye Pea".
My personal opinion is that there is no right or wrong, until we all are forced to speak ''Standard English'' (maybe in a dystopian future of a "New World Order"), and instead of being upset about it, let us all appreciate all our peoples diversity.
Have fun with Linux!

Ah! Problem with meta tags...
I had the canonical URL defined and somehow it would use a different domain name than the one currently in use...
I removed that meta tag and it works. 8-)
Uh oh....Can't download the ogg file!
So, how can we learn the right way to pronounce Linux if we can't download the file!!! :-)
Seriously, I get "Page Not Found."
