How do I force my viewport scale to 1.0?

I just spent hours trying to understand how the viewport functions. You can change it dynamically, but only once. That is. set it to a certain value and let the GUI take that new value in account. Then later you can change it again with another value, if you'd like.

What I was looking to do is reset the zoom back to 1.0 after a user clicked on an image and very likely zoomed in and out to better see the image. At the time the user is done, he clicks the image once and it comes back to the website. Only, the zoom remains the same by default. Which somewhat makes sense since the browser ...

REST hook trigger needs a polling url (ZSE007)

As I'm working on a Zap application (see Zapier). I got this error about my triggers:

REST hook trigger needs a polling url (ZSE007)

So... I understand that they want to have a URL to do a poll and they even have documentation that explains why they want to poll in case of a REST hook Zap: Whenever the user wants to test the Zap, the application will get some data using the polling method. That way they can get that data specifically for one test and not force you to generate an trigger. One problem with testing with an actual trigger is that any other Zap listening to the same trigger ...

Adding a group for to a logged in Linux user

Once in a while I want to add my user to a group and then right away make use of that group.

Unfortunately, in general Unix kind of forces you to re-log in for the new group to be attached to your account.

However, a command has been added, a while back, to do just that on the fly. Not something you would want to use in a script, but at least, it works for me when doing a few things here and there.

In my case, I wanted to run QEMU, which I hadn't done in a while, and the system told me that it could not open the KVM, the error: kvm permission denied.

The problem was that I was not part ...

Installing / Upgrading SugarCRM

Preparations after unzip

Installing SugarCRM is generally easy, but if you don't want to just make everything writable by Apache, you may find it tricky, especially if you have problems setting up the system.

First of all, you want to get the code from SourceForget.net and extract it in the root directory of the website where you want to use it. I prefer to dedicate a sub-domain name such as crm.m2osw.com to make use of SugarCRM. That way I don't have to deal with other weird things of using this under a sub-directory.

Once in there, the user and group should be a user other than ...

Setting tag attributes in a dynamic way in XSLT with XQuery

I wanted to dynamically manage the attributes of the HTML tag. As I'm working on the Snap! C++ system, I thought that should be done with the standard XSLT feature: <xsl:attribute-set name="...">. Unfortunately the the XQuery implementation does not currently support such, at all.

There is a way, though, to still make it work with a central template definition which can be used to decide what should be and what should not be added to the HTML tag.  Especially, in this way we can make use of one template that is a system defined template. This being said, if you use ...

Cannot log in user with Samba

Today I wasted another hour or so in trying to get samba to work for one of my Windows computer so I could connect to one of my Linux computer. I knew that the installation was correct since I could log in with another computer/user that had worked for a long time. So... why would this one fail?

Two things, for of all, I could see NOTHING happening in the logs. Really wondering why the default is to log close to nothing with such a non-secure piece of software, but that's a different question. I added the following to actually get about enough logs to understand what was happening:

log ...

MS-Access and Focus handling

MS-Access can be programmed with VBA which is neat. I do that a lot because the default forms do not allow you to strongly verify the data validity or even better: prevent you from editing certain record because they are too old, you don't have permissions, it was already archived in some way (i.e. invoice paid), etc.

However, I often encounter problems with the focus. The main thing I do to make it as safe as possible is show or hide buttons. If you cannot activate function A, then there is no point in having a button for function A. Instead, we should hide the function A button when we ...

Getting Ubuntu to playback DVDs

In order to playback a DVD you need to make use of commercial encryptions (also called codecs.) Actually Ubuntu calls them "non-free". The reality is these are patented and protected so people cannot just ripoff a DVD. Which is not true at all since pretty much any computer can play DVDs and thus can copy all the data. Anyway, because Ubuntu is by default for free software, it doesn't include all the necessary DVD stuff. This being said, they provide 100% of all the necessary code, pre-compiled and all you have to do is install it all with apt-get as follow.

WNetAddConnection2 function, how to

Introduction

I just faught for a few hours trying to get the WNetAddConnection2() to work in my program and found out two things that I did not see explained anywhere in the documentation...

Folder that Works

I'm not too sure whether that's a new thing at the company I worked in to implement this function or whether that's every time, although I've seen other posts on the Internet with the same sort of path so I would imagine that this is a "normal" Microsoft network feature.

The fact is that to connect you have to use the name of the server followed by some ...

Waiting up to 60 more seconds for network configuration...

Versions 11.04, 11.10, and 12.04

Okay! That one took me too long!?

I was searching for "Waiting up to 60 more seconds for network configuration..." and just couldn't find where the heck that was hidden. It's in /etc/default/failsafe.conf and if you look at that file you'll see a few sleep in there.

I'm not too sure what that's really used for, but having to wait 2 minutes for the server to boot seems dramatic when before it used to start immediately and worked just fine.

So, edit the file, scroll down and remove the sleeps... I do not recommand you do that ...
