Path versus website domain & path with Drupal

With Drupal, it is possible to have many sites defined in many different ways.

These are the things you can have in your URL that Drupal will understand and use to configure your site. The configuration file is called settings.php and will reside in a folder of which the name is determined using the URL used to access the site.

1. Fully qualified domain name

2. Port

3. Path withing the website

Sites are expected to be found under the 'sites' folder found in the same directory as the index.php file.

favicon

Have you seen animated icons in your tabs? This has been working for a while, with IE and FF and Co.

All you have to do is create an animated GIF file as your "favicon.ico", and it is better to name it .gif, by the way.

Because icons can now be pretty much any image format, not just .ico

And if you need some favicon for your site, check this one out: http://www.favicon.cc

Many of these are free!

Tripwire and updates

A week or so ago we updated our Ubuntu server to Intrepid and ran in a problem with tripwire that showed up like this:

    tripwire -m u -r <report-file>
    ### Error: Keyfile Read/Write error.
    ### /etc/tripwire/site.key
    ### Exiting...

We tried to renew the key file with the following:

    twadmin -m G -S /etc/tripwire/site.key

and it did not make any difference (other than the key file had a new date).

The permissions looked right too (root, u+rw only).

Managing your own Drupal Download Site

The other day, I was thinking, it would be nice if I could find the way to manage my own download site so people who use my modules that I do not provide directly on https://www.drupal.org would still show as expected (i.e. Green in the update window).

I found this page about it: https://www.drupal.org/node/210984

This is done by creating a service in your Drupal environment. You should use the ready made script named:

project-release-serve-history.php

which you can find in the D6 version of the Drupal project named Project. Being very ...

Changing the Width or Height affects the other

Problem

I had a problem with my CuteMenu1 module and tried many times to fix it but just could not find the problem with Internet Explorer.

The fact is that I created dropdowns that are supposed to be full width, but that did not work, somehow.

I wanted each item to have a pre-defined height. So in the style for my DIV I wrote this:

  • 1. This is a Drupal module. You happen to have Drupal? Download CuteMenu now then!

View & Track tabs in Drupal sites

If you have your own Drupal site, you may have noticed a set of tabs appearing at the top. The View and the Track tab often appear on your site even for anonymous users. This is really annoying!

Here I show you what I see when I go to one of my pages. The View, Edit and Track tabs.

Tools to check out your MS-Windows system

To look at your processes, threads, modules, network, etc. at a quite low level, you can use the SysInternals Tools. System Internals was bought by Microsoft. So the new site is at Microsoft.com. The old URL still functions though (http://www.sysinternals.com).

Note that since that purchase Microsoft has worked to ameliorate their libraries to give these tools legitimate access to the data they query!

In most cases, these tools work against running processes and not against the source (not the .exe, .dll, etc. files, but their loaded/in memory versions.)
