Hide sub-folders with Subversion

It is often that I want to hide a sub-folder so whenever I do an svn status I don't actually see that sub-folder in my list of files that are not available in the repository. It is otherwise quite annoying to see that folder again and again.

The command to do so uses a property on the parent folder as follow:

Inline lists

Lists are most of the time used to create menus. These menus can easily be shown vertically on one side or another of your website.

Now, most of the time, you will want to have one or two menus showing horizontally (like the top menu on this site, although that one is very specific to the Cute menu module.)

If you are reading this, you probably already know how to create such menus. The HTML code looks like this:

  <li>Item 1</li>
  <li>Item 2</li>
  <li>Item 3</li>

Note that sub-menu items are possible too, ...

Number of friends on Facebook is limited!

Playing around with facebook for a couple weeks now and I bumped into a new one!

Yep! There is a limit to the number of friends you can have on Facebook... It is 5,000±10.

This explains why I have found several people with multiple accounts. That's the way to circumvent the limit. With 3 accounts, you can get 15,000 people in your circle.

Twitter and emails

Today, I finally registered with Twitter. I'll be looking into a way to connect that to my blogs so each time I blog, I get a tweat eliminating the need for me to actually tweat for real.

Okay, that's fine, but guess what... they want me to verify my email address and it does not work.

List Open Files

This is a quick note so I can find the command I need to use to list open files.

My search will work this time.

lsof stands exactly for "LiSt Open Files"

That gives you a list of all the files opened by your system, process by process. It can be useful to know if you are developing a program or if you are limited in the number of files opened at once.

Drupal Module installed but not installed?!

Last night I found a problematic module... Specifically, it was XML Sitemap, but I do not think it was specific to that module.

The problem? I lost the XML Sitemap menu. I could not access it at all. So I decided to run the update.php code to see whether that would wake it up. Did not work. Then I tried going in the Modules list and disabling the modules. Did not work! Wow! I could not disable these modules!!! How weird...

Logos from Brands

Quite often, I write documents that require a logo from a brand such as Microsoft or Apple. Here I have link that take me to the pages were I can get the logos. The following are links to the logos of different companies I work with. If you have some, feel free to share! The list is in alphabetical order.

  • Apple

  • Made to Order Software Corporation

No AfterUpdate event on Check Boxes in MS-Access?!

  1. My checkbox does not have an AfterUpdate event
  2. When running, I cannot de-select that check box once selected

Discovery Process to Solution

In MS-Access, you often want to run an action after the user changed something in a form.

The Conduit Toolbar

Today I tried a new system. It lets you create a toolbar for your browser. One thing that impressed me was that it worked for Internet Explorer and FireFox and runs under MS-Windows and Mac OS/X, but also works beautifully under Linux!!!

Note that SeaMonkey will ask you whether you want to install that software and it will fail since it has some features like FireFox but the installation process is different.

Now, I like the bar for one reason: I can put RSS feeds in there and see it tick. Only problem there, it goes too fast.

PHP glob function does not return softlinks

I use all sorts of tricks in order to duplicate functionality without actually duplicating PHP code.

One of the main, easiest way under Unix is to create softlinks. First put all your code in one folder, then create a softlink to it. That gives you two paths:

In software, scanning means checking the content of memory or a disk for something. In hardware, you have scanners that read the colors on a piece of paper. In the C language, you have a function called sscan() (String Scan,) which I recommend you avoid, but is used to scan the content of a string.
