MS-Access query sort not working

Looked around on how to sort out a report properly as it was sorting on the wrong field (actually at first it did not even look like it was sorted at all, but I did not notice that other field was indeed sorted!)

The sort in a Query Report form (opposed to just an SQL query) is defined by the Group & Sort feature and not the SQL results. Actually, you most certainly don't need it in the SQL because otherwise you'll be sorting twice.

It took me a while, but I'm glad I found the solution. All the documentation I searched only talked about the wrong methods: use the Query sort ...

Epson 1260 (and others) and Linux

As I started using my Epson 1260 Photo scanner on my Linux box, I got some problems...

The first scan works perfectly, and then on the second and following weird colors start appearing. Usually it is red or green, some sort of a gradient. At times half the page is like that, at times more, at times it's like a gradient...

Searching, some people said that the iscan driver was bad. Not true. The driver works perfectly.

Not too sure where the problem really is, looks like the buffer used to read the data is not correctly cleared before we read the next image. That is, in the video tool I ...

Using your firewall with Postfix

After a little while (very little) our mail server gets quite clogged. It does not cause much problem to our server, however, legal mail server will have a hard time to connect because all of those illegal mail server connect thousands of times to try sending us spam.

To give you an example, I blocked less than 10 IPs today and I got over 5,000 hits blocked within about 12 hours. That's to give you a picture of the badness of those scam robots.

I thus looked for a solution to automatically block those IPs. I found two things, one is a shell script. I do not recommend it since it is ...

Number of friends on Facebook is limited!

Playing around with facebook for a couple weeks now and I bumped into a new one!

Yep! There is a limit to the number of friends you can have on Facebook... It is 5,000±10.

This explains why I have found several people with multiple accounts. That's the way to circumvent the limit. With 3 accounts, you can get 15,000 people in your circle.

PHP glob function does not return softlinks

I use all sorts of tricks in order to duplicate functionality without actually duplicating PHP code.

One of the main, easiest way under Unix is to create softlinks. First put all your code in one folder, then create a softlink to it. That gives you two paths:

top -> top -o cpu

Hard to believe, but the FreeBSD top utility does NOT sort by CPU usage by default. I guess there is some other magic. 99.9% of all the system you run now a day will have way more processes that can be displayed in one window. This means you need to have the processes that use the most CPU at the top to see what's running and taking too much time.

  • C
The C language is one of the oldest. It allows for very fast implementations, but has a huge lack of memory protection.
  • collection
  • loadavg
  • web
  • zoom

The effect of enlarging (zoom in) or reducing (zoom out) what you see on your screen.

Note that enlarging generally pixelizes the data unless you have an image with very high precision.

On the other hand, reducing merges colors together and thus generates a blury image.
