How do I force my viewport scale to 1.0?

I just spent hours trying to understand how the viewport functions. You can change it dynamically, but only once. That is. set it to a certain value and let the GUI take that new value in account. Then later you can change it again with another value, if you'd like.

What I was looking to do is reset the zoom back to 1.0 after a user clicked on an image and very likely zoomed in and out to better see the image. At the time the user is done, he clicks the image once and it comes back to the website. Only, the zoom remains the same by default. Which somewhat makes sense since the browser ...

Wordpress 2017 -- how do you get a summary in your Category and other lists?

I now also work on a Worpress website with theme 2017 (twentyseventeen) and I noticed that when I go to the Caegories or some other list of posts, I get the full posts.

Looking into it, I could not really see anything about it on the Internet. Strange.

The fact is that all you have to do is go back to each post (yeah, a tad bit tedious if you have hundreds already) and add the "Read more mark". The fact is that Wordpress does not seem to automatically add a feature to automatically calculte the summary of your posts. Maybe I missed it or I would need to install yet another plugin.. ...

Why would Windows 8 lose my WiFi connection all the time?

The laptop I use runs MS-Windows 8.1, because a few software I have only run on that platform... It uses the WiFi to connect to my LAN. This is how I access the Internet, too.

Only once in a while (very often, if you ask me!), my WiFi would go out. This started to happen more or less when I switched from AT&T to Comcast. I did not really see what could possibly be different and all my other computers would continue to work just fine, including those used with WiFi too.

Many people say that your WiFi is bad or that you should change your WiFi Router... Or maybe when the laptop goes ...

Thunderbird is so slow... it's nearly unusable!?

I have been using Thunderbird for a long time and yet I still did not know about the Compact feature.

A while back, i would use my Local Folders to save Junk, Draft, and Sent emails. This is really fast by default. But at some point I had a problem and reverted to using the remote folders which worked.

The problem was that Thunderbird would tell me that my Local Folders were full even though looking at them they were clearly empty.

The way this works is really annoyingly bad:

1. it accepts emails in a file, like the good old days, it uses one file for any number of emails

2. it adds new ...

Recover name of message registered with RegisterWindowMessage()

Today I was confronted with an error in a process that would run in the background and slowly fill up the Windows message queue when it should have been dormant.

I looked at the messages that were being processed once the process woke up and the message number was 0xC10C or so. Nothing in the software has such a number. So I looked around and found out that the message was one of those created using the RegisterWindowMessage() function. (This is wrong in that application since the messages are never used from external applications, but oh well... that does not change the basic problem.)

Convert XML tags and text to a String

Today I started testing a lot of my JavaScript / jQuery code from a website I am building for a customer. I got an error, at some point, saying:

SCRIPT5007: Unable to get property 'replace' of undefined or null reference

The error was in link with the 'replace' function being referenced on an innerHTML of an element. More specifically, one of those XML element (probably the top most one.)

The fact is that Internet Explorer does not support innerHTML in an XML document. Not to be too surprised about that, XML is not HTML so there is really no reason why innerHTML should be ...

Lost SSH key graphical prompt and auto-add to SSH agent

At some point in the past, my system somehow lost the ability to avoid asking me for my key every time I connect to one of my servers. It generally okay, I don't do so much work on that server that I'd have to connect all the time...

However, it is annoying when, once in while, I end up doing a lot of work, back and forth.

The ssh-agent was installed and working. I could add the key manually:

ssh-add ~/.ssh/my-secret-key
ssh-add -l

The ssh-add command allows you to add and remove keys from the ssh-agent. The -l command line option lists the keys currently held by the agent.

Adding a group for to a logged in Linux user

Once in a while I want to add my user to a group and then right away make use of that group.

Unfortunately, in general Unix kind of forces you to re-log in for the new group to be attached to your account.

However, a command has been added, a while back, to do just that on the fly. Not something you would want to use in a script, but at least, it works for me when doing a few things here and there.

In my case, I wanted to run QEMU, which I hadn't done in a while, and the system told me that it could not open the KVM, the error: kvm permission denied.

The problem was that I was not part ...

HP Printer options not offering "Color: Off" option anymore

As I upgraded to Ubuntu 13.10, I noticed that I lost the option to turn off the color when printing.

Looking around all the available options, no one to make it black and white (although the old option was saying something like: Color: Off; it was somewhat weird.)

Now that option is completely gone. There is no way for me to turn off my HP Printer color when I am in Acrobate or LibreOffice. I searched on the Internet to see whether that was just HP trying to get you to use colors on your printer or whether the option was available... somewhere else.

Indeed, I had to go to the System ...

Readonly content cannot be changed. Libreoffice preventing edits...

Today I opened a document where I had to make a few edits and LibreOffice decided to tell me:

Readonly content cannot be changed.
No modifications will be accepted.

There is a screenshot of that message:

Error message: Readonly content cannot be changed. No modifications will be accepted.

The error may be justified, I do not know, but apparently not too many people know how to unlock a document. I found pages and pages that tell people to check the read/write protection of the file, as if a read-only file on disk could not be updated in the editor... (yes! you cannot write it back, but you can edit it and do a Save As ...)

One person, though, had the correct answer to ...
