CRON Drupal says "HTTP/1.0 302 Found" about "/cgi-bin/ipdiags.ha" (AT&T U-Verse)

I run a few Drupal website and once per hour I run the cron.php script. I do it only once per hour because nothing changes so often on my websites so it would require faster refreshes.

Once in a while (relatively rarely now) I get a list of errors from CRON saying that the checks failed. The errors look something like this:

HTTP/1.0 302 Found
Location: /cgi-bin/ipdiags.ha
Pragma: no-cache
Content-Type: text/html

<html><meta http-equiv=Refresh content=0;url=/cgi-bin/ipdiags.ha>
<body></body></html>

As you can see, this is a 302 so a temporary error. ...

Using non-default private key for Launchpad

As I was looking around for the way to specify the correct key for launchpad, I could not find it. Luckily the ssh process is running when it asks for the passphrase so I could see the URL used to access the launchpad server from Bazaar. It is:

bazaar.launchpad.net

The address is not visible by default because you use the lp: protocol instead of a full URI to access launchpad.

  Host bazaar.launchpad.net
    HostName bazaar.launchpad.net
    User <your launchpad username>
    PasswordAuthentication no
    HostbasedAuthentication no
    IdentitiesOnly yes
    IdentityFile ...

WordPress user "nicename" and spaces

Today I noticed that I had quite a few 404 errors on one of my websites. That one uses Wordpress that I got from someone else. Because I wanted to include a blog, I had to change the login name and Wordpress does not allow you to do that by default.

So to change the login and password, I directly edited the database makeing user 1 me, essentially.

I replaced the user_login and user_nicename with my own name. This worked just fine. At least at first it looked like everything was working right. Then I noticed that the author link had my name in it. The one with the space. Something like ...

Drupal paths that won't work!

As I created a new site to list all of my accounts on the Internet, I thought the folder where those accounts appear should be called profiles. But somehow autopath did not generate the URL Alias as expected.

http://www.alexiswilke.me/profiles/

I tried several times and each time it returned an empty alias. Then I tried adding the alias by hand and that was accepted by Drupal, but when I then tried to go to that page it failed with an Apache error which at first I found odd. Then I recalled that there was a folder named profiles in the top directory of Drupal. The Drupal code (from the

Restore Firefox warnings when viewing non-secure data on a secure page

One thing that I quickly do on my browsers is turn off warnings about non-secure data when browsing secure pages (with HTTPS .)

It's rarely a problem and with all those features you like to have (Facebook, Twitter, AddThis, ShareThis, Google Plus, and othe fun widgets...) it's hard to avoid. Actually, many times the problem lies in one of these scripts and thus you cannot just fix your website. Without that 3rd party script owner fixing their code, it just won't work at all.

Now, once in a while I work on a customer website and they really want to have a 100% clean slate. Thus,

Closing a window from Flash

I had a little project which requirements was an Adobe Flash animation that calls a JavaScript function to close a browser window.

With the newest version of Internet Explorer, it will first ask you whether you want to let the script close your window... that's a problem when you'd like that process to be smooth (i.e. without user interaction.)

Clean URL not working on my Drupal site?!

Today I finally solved a problem that was bothering me for a while. A Drupal site I installed for a friend of mine would not accept the Clean URL set. This is when the URL does not need to include the rather ugly ?q=<path>.

The more I was looking into it and the more it looked like the problem was coming from the Apache installation.

AddThis weird behaviors

I just switched my websites from one server to another and noticed that on my main company site (http://www.m2osw.com) I would get a # at the end of the URL. Automatically added somehow. Thinking that could be a bad guy I checked the code and could not really see anything.

Hitting "Back" once, I noticed that the # would be transformed to #atssh-digg. I don't have anything specific about digg on that page except the AddThis button. That adds Digg among some 150 different systems where you can share my pages.

Do you know how to pronounce Linux?

Yes.

I have been around a lot of people and there are many who heard of Linux but to not know how to pronounce that word. I never thought it was complicated, that's a latin word, right?

So... maybe it is not "Lie neex"... Think about the "i" later and see how Italians, Spanish and French people pronounce it... Yes! The right way! You got it!

Anyway... for those in doubt, there is a file you can listen to:

Testing ping.fm, quite a tool for marketers!

I actually remembered that ping.fm would do what I wanted to do and even better than the couple of things I tested before. It will broadcast everything everywhere. In a way, a bit scary!

There are 45 systems as of today (Jul 11, 2009) where your posts will automatically be posted.

And if you want to know, you will need a user key for everything to work. When logged in your ping.fm account, go to http://ping.fm/key

You key is a long string of letters and digits (for those in the known, it is called an md5sum)
