Page list for MS-Windows

  • When I installed Flash, it automatically installed McAfee, the anti-virus, and really, I have not seen an option to NOT install that wonderful free tool which annoys me (and probably many others) a lot...

    Not knowing, I then searched for a little while, why is it that my Wifi connection says "Limited" instead of "Connected". This is because McAfee replaces the MS-Windows firewall with their own stuff. That stuff limits the connections and everything will not go through, hence the Limited information on my Wifi connection.

    Since I removed McAfee, my connection remains and ...

  • The laptop I use runs MS-Windows 8.1, because a few software I have only run on that platform... It uses the WiFi to connect to my LAN. This is how I access the Internet, too.

    Only once in a while (very often, if you ask me!), my WiFi would go out. This started to happen more or less when I switched from AT&T to Comcast. I did not really see what could possibly be different and all my other computers would continue to work just fine, including those used with WiFi too.

    Many people say that your WiFi is bad or that you should change your WiFi Router... Or maybe when the laptop goes ...

  • Not too long ago, I accepted the update from Microsoft to go to MS-Windows 2000 SP4. Neat. Except that when I rebooted (I think the 2nd time, but not totally sure, my wife used the computer in between, it seems...) it could not load my profile anymore.

  • Introduction

    I just faught for a few hours trying to get the WNetAddConnection2() to work in my program and found out two things that I did not see explained anywhere in the documentation...

    Folder that Works

    I'm not too sure whether that's a new thing at the company I worked in to implement this function or whether that's every time, although I've seen other posts on the Internet with the same sort of path so I would imagine that this is a "normal" Microsoft network feature.

    The fact is that to connect you have to use the name of the server followed by some ...

  • Today I wanted to check out a set of floating value in my Visual C++ development environment.

    You can use the OutputDebugString() to print a debug string in the VC++ output window when running a software. This is quite handy, but when working in C++, string handling can be tedious. I need to create a message and wrote something similar to this:

    wchar_t msg[128];
    swprintf(msg, "Float: %f\n", my_float);
    ...

  • I started the stock SeaMonkey browser by mistake as my Unity icons disappeared (i.e. seamonkey as is on my command line started /usr/bin/seamonkey which is not the correct version!) This had several bad side effects. For of all, it destroyed my bookmarks (argh!) and then it decided to install the 64bit Flash plugin. That did not work well since the version I like is a 32bit version.

    Once I had the correct version started again, each time it was trying to open a Flash animation, it would be "stuck" for a few minutes, until I tried to open a page with a movie in a Flash shell. That ...
