Page list for Drupal

  • As I created a new site to list all of my accounts on the Internet, I thought the folder where those accounts appear should be called profiles. But somehow autopath did not generate the URL Alias as expected.

    http://www.alexiswilke.me/profiles/

I tried several times and each time it returned an empty alias. Then I tried adding the alias by hand and that was accepted by Drupal, but when I then tried to go to that page it failed with an Apache error which at first I found odd. Then I recalled that there was a folder named profiles in the top directory of Drupal. The Drupal code (from the

  • Let's start with my rant!

I like Drupal, in general. But like most PHP code bases, if an "error" (mistake) occurs, nothing is reported.

I spent hours trying to make one of my menu work (Note that the "menu" module is also called the "links" module.) It just did not want to go. In order to have the nice breadcrumb and other such features, you need to have menus with sub-sub-menus...

  • Today I got this error which surprised me for a little while. I was pretty sure I had it before, but could not find a reference, so I decided to put it here for sure this time!

    Error: this.table.tBodies is undefined
    Source File: http://linux.m2osw.com/sites/all/modules/jquery_update/replace/tabledrag...
    Line: 516

Whenever I create a table in Drupal and the elements can be sorted, I like to use the drupal_add_tabledrag() feature. This function first parameter is the name of the table to drag. I was totally sure I had it right but it just kept giving me that error, over and over again

  • Have you seen animated icons in your tabs? This has been working for a while, with IE and FF and Co.

All you have to do is create an animated GIF file as your "favicon.ico", and it is better to name it .gif, by the way.

Because icons can now be pretty much any image format, not just .ico

And if you need some favicon for your site, check this one out: http://www.favicon.cc

    Many of these are free!

  • Once in a while, I need to get the complete list of all the variables available in a PHP piece of code.

This is done with the get_defined_vars() PHP function. It's very simple, it returns an array of name / value pairs. You can then print that value using print_r() or var_dump().

    That's it!

  • You can actually define an image or a background (with CSS) that fits the area in which is it shown.

For a simple image use a width of 100%, then the browser computes the height for you.

      <div class="header"><img src="images/background.png" width="100%"></div>

This code will make the image width match the width of the <div> tag. Assuming the <div> tag fits the screen width, it will show in the full width, stretching as required.

When trying to do that with a background image in CSS, you want to use the background-size parameter ...

  • Lists are most of the time used to create menus. These menus can easily be shown vertically on one side or another of your website.

Now, most of the time, you will want to have one or two menus showing horizontally (like the top menu on this site, although that one is very specific to the Cute menu module.)

If you are reading this, you probably already know how to create such menus. The HTML code looks like this:

    <ul>
      <li>Item 1</li>
      <li>Item 2</li>
      <li>Item 3</li>
    </ul>

Note that sub-menu items are possible too, ...

  • This page is an extension to the InsertNode module available on Drupal.

I include here a set of files that one may be interested in to enhance the experience with that module.

If you have another file, let me know, and I might very well include it here (After reviewing the code!)

    Thank you.

This file adds two prompts to help enter your [node: ... ] tag. This is based on Zewa's work.

  • As I create website, I often deal with JavaScript code. At times, a variable doesn't make it for different reasons, for instance a part is missing and thus the variable generation doesn't happen. If then the script uses that undefined variable, then it generates an error. In some cases, it may not matter too much. However, when the variable that doesn't exist is hit, the JavaScript interpreter generates an exception and stops the execution of the script altogether (unless you capture the exceptions... Do you do that?!)

The solution is to test the variable and since I always have to search how

  • Today I installed a Joomla site because I have a contract to do some development in Joomla.

So... I started, looks real nice and stuff, clicked next, next and got and error. It tells me that the configuration.php file is not writable and that I'll have to copy and paste once I'm finished or make it writable. Well... I thus copy configure.php-dist as configure.php and try again.

That makes it fail a little later with the following error:
