  • lsof

    List open files in your Linux system. This command lists all the files that are currently opened. If you are root, you can list all the files opened on the system. Otherwise, only those that you have permission to read or write will show up.

  • partition
    Sectors on a storage device. All storage devices are not partitions. For instance, a CD is written as one long strip. All others have a start and end sector that define the partition boundaries.
  • ps

    Unix command line tool used to list processes currently running. On some older Unices, it would also show zombies (processes that have exited but with parents who have not yet acknoledged their death.)
