Turning sites and modules on and off in Apache2

I always have to looks for the command line option to turn sites and modules on and off (really it is said to be enabled or disabled.)

The commands are as follow:

  • a2ensite -- enable one site
  • a2dissite -- disable one site
  • a2enmod -- enable one module
  • a2dismod -- disable one module

When you use one of the commands in the command line terminal without specifying which site or module to enable, then you are given a list of the sites or modules you can enable or disable. Note that the configuration files have to end with .conf for this mechanism to work as expected.

Lost SSH key graphical prompt and auto-add to SSH agent

At some point in the past, my system somehow lost the ability to avoid asking me for my key every time I connect to one of my servers. It generally okay, I don't do so much work on that server that I'd have to connect all the time...

However, it is annoying when, once in while, I end up doing a lot of work, back and forth.

The ssh-agent was installed and working. I could add the key manually:

ssh-add ~/.ssh/my-secret-key
ssh-add -l

The ssh-add command allows you to add and remove keys from the ssh-agent. The -l command line option lists the keys currently held by the agent.

HP Printer options not offering "Color: Off" option anymore

As I upgraded to Ubuntu 13.10, I noticed that I lost the option to turn off the color when printing.

Looking around all the available options, no one to make it black and white (although the old option was saying something like: Color: Off; it was somewhat weird.)

Now that option is completely gone. There is no way for me to turn off my HP Printer color when I am in Acrobate or LibreOffice. I searched on the Internet to see whether that was just HP trying to get you to use colors on your printer or whether the option was available... somewhere else.

Indeed, I had to go to the System ...

Postfix says it does not allow relaying?!

As we are upgrading our server to jump from version 12.04 to 13.04, we encounter a few problems.

Two with Postfix, first the Postgrey port has changed. It was 60000 before, now it is 10023. Don't ask me... Anyway, that was the easy one.

The other problem was a relay error. I could send emails all I wanted, but not my partner who does not show his server as part of our Made to Order Software Corp. network. Relay is why a computer allows emails from server X to be sent to server Y through server Z. You are server Z, that's the relay.

The fact is that if you can log in your account on ...

Debug and/or Release specific command line option in cmake

Today I ran in a problem with cmake which was to very simply select /MT instead of /MD for a small set of projects. The problem is that so far this feature was at least on a per directory basis. Since the exact same directory is used to build the dynamic (DLL) and static (.lib) libraries, having two directories is not exactly an option here.

set ( CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS_RELEASE "${CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS_RELEASE} /MT" )
set ( CMAKE_C_FLAGS_RELEASE "${CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS_RELEASE} /MT" )
set ( CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS_DEBUG "${CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS_RELEASE} /MTd" )
set ( CMAKE_C_FLAGS_DEBUG ...

Thunderbird: Trash/Junk Folder Is Full

Yesterday I got a surprise. My junk email stayed in my Inbox instead of going to my Junk folder... Why?

The automated function doesn't give you any error. It just doesn't do anything.

When I tried to mark a message as junk, that's when I got an error message saying...

Your Junk Folder is Full

Wow! I looked again... but I knew. It was still FULLY empty. Hmmm...

Looking around I found a post on some random website saying that the limit of a folder was 4Gb. Okay. But my folder is EMPTY. I look for any other Junk folder, just in case another one was filled up. Nope. All empty! (I ...

Too many authentication failures for <username>

Today I tried to make use of sftp to transfer a website to SourceForge.net. Unfortunately, it kept giving me an error:

Received disconnect from <IP address>: 2: Too many authentication failures for <username>

I looked around why that would happen and could not really find anything decisive... until I found an issue in the trac system that SourceForge.net uses. That issue mentioned the fact that the ssh-agent could be the culprit.

It was. Somehow the ssh-agent was sending key after key after key... exhausting the number of keys that SourceForget.net will accept and thus made it

Verifying the md5sum of Installed Debian or Ubuntu packages

I always wondered why we couldn't just use dpkg to verify that the installed packages have not be tempered with. I know that the feature is hardly safe if the md5's are saved on the same computer, even the same hard drive...

Still, once in a while it's just a manual error that requires me to check that I did do something wrong on my computer.

Under Red Hat the rpm packager offers the -V option: Verify.

Under Debian and thus Ubuntu and other derivatives, the debsums tool has to be installed and used for that purpose.

  sudo apt-get install debsums
  debsums -s <package ...

rsync backup generating a connection unexpectedly closed, error in rsync protocol data stream

Description

I wrote a small shell script (bash) to make a backup of one of my hard drive to another. Really, a very very simple script. It has one rsync command per partition. So I have one variable to define all the options and one rsync call per partition:

SeaMonkey 2.0

I guess I liked Netscape just way too much... I used Mozilla after Netscape went down and bust, then I continued with SeaMonkey 1.x and now I just finished installing SeaMonkey 2.0.

There are features in this system that are just better than in FireFox. However, SeaMonkey 2.0 is a re-sync. with FireFox 3.x. In other words, this is very similar to FireFox, with the correct display features of the HTML code. But it keeps the menu, preferences and look in general of SeaMonkey. (although the fonts have changed... I'll have to get used to those!?)
