Attack by ZmEu

Who is ZmEu?

An image showing ZmeuThe name Zmeu (no capital E) is the name of a fantastic creature of Romania. There are so many stories that there isn't a clear understanding of what it is... but it is human like, can spit fire and wants to marry young women.

If you're wondering, it is generally a bad guy.

ZmEu Attack

Today, I noticed a lot of traffic on one of my servers. Looking into what was happening, I immediately found out that an attacker was looking for a loophole in that system. That attack was being performed from China.

QEMU tricks and reference

Today I tried to run WinXP on my newly upgraded Linux Ubuntu 12.04. It did not work... that's because the aqemu graphical interface tries to run qemu which was replaced with specially named emulators: qemu-i386, qemu-system-x86_64, etc. (try ls /usr/bin/qemu* to see a complete list on your system.)

So... I got the command line from the aqemu graphical interface, did a copy / paste and replaced the name with qemu-system-i386 and got the emulator started as expected. That worked fine, but then the window remained small (640x480) which I wouldn't care much if I weren't really using ...

AddThis weird behaviors

I just switched my websites from one server to another and noticed that on my main company site ( I would get a # at the end of the URL. Automatically added somehow. Thinking that could be a bad guy I checked the code and could not really see anything.

Hitting "Back" once, I noticed that the # would be transformed to #atssh-digg. I don't have anything specific about digg on that page except the AddThis button. That adds Digg among some 150 different systems where you can share my pages.

InsertNode module for Drupal

This page is an extension to the InsertNode module available on Drupal.

I include here a set of files that one may be interested in to enhance the experience with that module.

If you have another file, let me know, and I might very well include it here (After reviewing the code!)

Thank you.

This file adds two prompts to help enter your [node: ... ] tag. This is based on Zewa's work.

Start -> Run without the Start menu

MS-Windows is extremely flexible. So one of the things you can do is delete your Start menu. It's a good way to prevent people from starting the "wrong" software. Now, without that menu and a few icons, what do you do?!

The Start -> Run menu is accessible using a Window key (held down) and the R key (W-R). This will open the Run window in which you can run all sorts of programs. It is a console reduce to its minimum! (Invented by Microsoft, thank you!)
