Page list for Mac OS/X

  • This page is a test page of the Menu per Role module for Drupal (Yes. This site is a Drupal site, did not guess yet?!) The module controls whether a menu entry should be shown to a given set of customer without having to change the permissions of the destination. This is particularly useful whenever the destination is not a node.

    As of Dec 2008, I'm the maintainer so I needed a place to test the module. Here it is.

    You will need to be registered and logged in to see the corresponding menu item in the drop down. Good luck.

    And the following is a node with comments that I use to test the ...

  • Hard to believe, but the FreeBSD top utility does NOT sort by CPU usage by default. I guess there is some other magic. 99.9% of all the system you run now a day will have way more processes that can be displayed in one window. This means you need to have the processes that use the most CPU at the top to see what's running and taking too much time.

  • Today I was testing a new intsallation that I prepared in the last month or so and once I hit Cassandra, I got this strange message:

       NoHostAvailable: ('Unable to complete the operation against any hosts',
       {<Host: 192.168.2.92 dc1>: Unavailable('Error from server: code=1000
       [Unavailable exception] message="Cannot achieve consistency level ONE"
       info={\'required_replicas\': 1, \'alive_replicas\': 0, \'consistency\': \'ONE\'}',)})

    I looked for a solution with Google but was not really able to find anything that ...

  • Got a problem with Qt today... and it took me a little time to figure out again and I'm sure some people have something about it, but I couldn't find the right answer anywhere.

    Qt has those objects named QObject. You can derive them that class and to complete the object, you want to add a Q_OBJECT inside the class. Something like this:

      class MyClass : public QObject
      {
        Q_OBJECT
        [...your object definitions...]
      };

    That Q_OBJECT is what makes your object visible in the Qt environment (i.e. a Find by name will find your object if you give it a name with setObjectName().

  • Today I wanted to copy a column from one table to another. One way is to go through the table and update the items one by one. The other way is to use the UPDATE order a copy the data as required.

    The UPDATE command does NOT support such a feature by default and thus each database has its own syntax when it comes to how to make that work.

    PostgreSQL uses an extra FROM between the SET and WHERE orders.

  • I thought it was interesting to see that some people actually tested the length of URLs in different browsers. You have to know that the size of a URL in the location bar may be differently limited than the length of the URLs you can go to with the browser (i.e. the URL in an anchor may need to be shorter! Or could be longer and still work.)

    Note: These are Browsers limits in 2006.

  • I'm starting this page and hope to think about it again at a later time when I find additional tools... but as I have network problems I often need these types of services to make sure I can get the information I need.

    What is your IP address?

    Check your current IP address from your browser:

    What is my DNS?

    This one is for people who setup a DNS to make sure that it can accessed from all over the world. It ...

  • If you have your own Drupal site, you may have noticed a set of tabs appearing at the top. The View and the Track tab often appear on your site even for anonymous users. This is really annoying!

    Here I show you what I see when I go to one of my pages. The View, Edit and Track tabs.

  • An RSS feed is very common on all new websites. It has been around for years now. As of today you could listen to thousands of RSS feeds and be totally swamped by all the news...

    But what is an RSS feed?

    The way users know about RSS feed is in the form of a URL. The URL points to a file on a website that includes data. That data file uses the specific RSS or RDF format, which uses XML as the base format.

    So it is in fact very easy to generate an RSS feed. All you have to do is write an XML file with the proper tags and attri as defined on the W3C and AtomEnabled ...

  • I started the stock SeaMonkey browser by mistake as my Unity icons disappeared (i.e. seamonkey as is on my command line started /usr/bin/seamonkey which is not the correct version!) This had several bad side effects. For of all, it destroyed my bookmarks (argh!) and then it decided to install the 64bit Flash plugin. That did not work well since the version I like is a 32bit version.

    Once I had the correct version started again, each time it was trying to open a Flash animation, it would be "stuck" for a few minutes, until I tried to open a page with a movie in a Flash shell. That ...
