Page list for Drupal

  • Today I was trying to create a table in a post and just could not get the cell padding I wanted. Without the padding the data is all cramped together which did not look the way I wanted (see Alexis Wilke Accounts.)

    I knew I had the following entry in my CSS but did not think it was stronger than the table cellpadding and cellspacing specifications because I thought it worked for me before!

    * {
      margin: 0;
      padding: 0;
    }

    I was wrong, that definition applies to the td with a greater constrained. So I had to add another entry. I solved the problem using a td definition like this:

  • I use Drupal for most of my sites. I use it in many different ways and it has been working real good for me.

    On one of the sites, I use the ThemeKey module to select a different theme once you are logged in. This means, when I want to switch themes, that one theme selected for logged in users sticks, whether you disable it or not, it remains selected by the system.

    And?

    Well... one thing sticks from themes, their .info file. You just cannot refresh the cache properly unless you disable the theme, then re-enable it. (By the way, when disabled, don't go to the Blocks administration screen ...

  • Problem

    I had a problem with my CuteMenu1 module and tried many times to fix it but just could not find the problem with Internet Explorer.

    The fact is that I created dropdowns that are supposed to be full width, but that did not work, somehow.

    I wanted each item to have a pre-defined height. So in the style for my DIV I wrote this:

    • 1. This is a Drupal module. You happen to have Drupal? Download CuteMenu now then!
  • Today I finally solved a problem that was bothering me for a while. A Drupal site I installed for a friend of mine would not accept the Clean URL set. This is when the URL does not need to include the rather ugly ?q=<path>.

    The more I was looking into it and the more it looked like the problem was coming from the Apache installation.

  • I had a little project which requirements was an Adobe Flash animation that calls a JavaScript function to close a browser window.

    With the newest version of Internet Explorer, it will first ask you whether you want to let the script close your window... that's a problem when you'd like that process to be smooth (i.e. without user interaction.)

  • On my sites, I'm using boost to allow much faster access time (close to instantaneous in comparison to hitting Drupal and all the database accesses...)

    The result is great! But it generates some problems when you test a page. It does not get refreshed... Easy, you can clear the cache. Not advisable when your cache is around 10,000 files. A better way, is to go to that page and click on "Flush Page" (available in one of the blocks offered by boost.)

  • I have been wondering, for a while, how the triggers where generated in Drupal. I know that one can catch a message by writing a hook function and you have hundreds of those available. However, how are the triggers working?!

    The fact is that triggers require you to write a function. The Core Trigger module has a set of specialized functions for the Core modules and it is limited to that. In other words, you cannot expect new modules to simply define an array and get the triggers to work (I was really wondering how could that really work?!)

  • A quick CSV (Comma Separated Values) reference:

    1) Row separator

      \n   \r\n

    In order to separate lines, use a newline character sequence.

    Most loaders probably support the \r sequence too. (Especially on MacOS/X)

  • Today I had an interesting experience... all of a sudden, all the blocks of a given theme disappeared.

    It has been working just fine for months, so I really wasn't sure what the heck it could be.

    The fact was that the theme was called the same as the module (as I work for a given client, I tend to do that...)

    At some point, I must have added a function with a specific name and that would influence the theme. The result being blocks going bye bye!

    I checked and the block content is computed just fine, the problem is the theme('block', $block) call. Although the ...

  • Last night I found a problematic module... Specifically, it was XML Sitemap, but I do not think it was specific to that module.

    The problem? I lost the XML Sitemap menu. I could not access it at all. So I decided to run the update.php code to see whether that would wake it up. Did not work. Then I tried going in the Modules list and disabling the modules. Did not work! Wow! I could not disable these modules!!! How weird...

    Secure Socket Layer, this is a protocol used to transmit secure data between two computers. Both computers will first agree on an encryption secret code, then all the data sent back and forth will be encoded using that code. In order to make it secure, you generate two set of numbers (called keys) one that is public and one that is private. The public key sole purpose is to encrypt the data. The private key sole purpose is to decrypt the data.
